Salazar Slytherin was one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a prestigious institution in the Harry Potter world. He was known for his cunning, ambition, resourcefulness, and determination, traits highly valued in the students of his house, Slytherin.

Slytherin held strong beliefs about the purity of magical blood. He advocated for only students of pure-blood magical heritage to be admitted to Hogwarts, which ultimately led to a rift with the other founders, particularly Godric Gryffindor.

Slytherin secretly created the Chamber of Secrets within Hogwarts, housing a Basilisk intended to purge the school of those he deemed unworthy. This plot remained dormant for centuries, only to be unleashed by Tom Riddle, later known as Lord Voldemort.

Salazar Slytherin is first directly mentioned in *Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone* (2001) Movie.
